Shawnee Mission North has the lowest socio-economical status in the SMSD school district, and has the highest percentage of kids on free/reduced lunch and dinner program. Shawnee Mission South and North are relatively equal when it comes to diversity,(roughly @) with North coming in with more Latin/Hispanic self-identified students. Shawnee Mission does ten to get a rap as being 'elite' and 'rich' because it resides in Johnson County, which actually decreases it's fundraising opportunities, when in fact, it is a Title 1 school (a federal program to help disadvantaged schools) it could use much more money, and more community support. There is a 501 (Shawnee Mission North Opportunity Fund) designated to to helping students at Shawnee Mission North for this reason.
Calling North cowboys
it's pretty laughable. I am there almost everyday and have yet to see a cowboy hat, a huge belt buckle or boots. It's not even close to rural.
